Buffett: the next big deal may not be an investment outside the United States

In response to a shareholder's question about Berkshire's BYD investment, Buffett said that BYD and Costco were the two stocks he most firmly advocated buying during the years he worked with Munger:

Charlie emphasized to me twice, buy, buy, buy. BYD is one of them, Costco is the other. I should be more active in many aspects of Costco. If we didn't, there would be no fatal consequences, but Munger was absolutely right in both companies.

Buffett also talked about investments in several Japanese businesses, saying the investments were attractive and "we bought them as quickly as possible." Buffett first bought shares in Japan on his 90th birthday in August 2020, initially worth about $6 billion. However, he revealed that bets on stock markets in other countries are unlikely to reach that scale.

Some investors asked Buffett whether Berkshire was actively looking for opportunities in the Indian stock market after the Indian economy and stock market had performed well over the past five to two decades.

In response, Buffett said he believes there are plenty of opportunities in India. But the question is what is the advantage of Berkshire's view of India, and is it possible that our investment is what India wants us to participate in? Maybe there are some areas that we haven't explored or noticed. There may be more opportunities in the future, but there may be opportunities now. The question is whether Berkshire has the advantage of pursuing these opportunities or making them a reality. Japan's investment is good, and India may have such opportunities, but he doesn't know. Buffett revealed that Berkshire is evaluating investment opportunities in Canada. 'no matter which way or form you put your money into Canada, you won't feel uneasy,'he said. As a matter of fact, one thing is being focused on right now. However, Buffett did not disclose more specific focus on which companies in Canada.

Buffett says Canadian companies operate similarly to the United States. But there are not as many big companies in Canada as in the United States. Some businesses Berkshire can do quite well, and Canada can benefit from Berkshire's participation.
